Approaches

Feedback Literacy
Language is an essential medium for self-reflection. With the goal of every Xinmin student becoming a proficient user in Mother Tongue Language, our teachers are equipped in the area of feedback literacy. Through careful curation of our lesson packages, students are to hone their language skills holistically, i.e listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This approach promotes greater self-directedness in learning amongst students as they are cognitively challenged during the process of reflective thinking.

Drawing Connections and Making Sense
To help our students possess the dispositions and language skills to take on the opportunities of the future, students are given ample opportunities to hone their Mother Tongue communication skills. Apart from the instructional programmes, the department aims to promote and strengthen our students’ sense of cultural heritage and identity through a variety of activities such as the Chinese New Year Celebration, Hari Raya Celebration, Mother Tongue Language Festival, Cultural Performance Exposure Scheme (CPES) and Culture & Aesthetic Exposure Programme (CAEP). By drawing connections with the real world, students will be able to relate better with their Mother Tongue and make sense of the importance of their cultural identity in the ever changing and shifting global landscape.

In the effort to elevate and enhance the ability of our students, we strive to provide different platforms for students to pursue their interests, develop their strengths and showcase their talent.
